In the proccess of trying to get the Picora 1.0 release candidate out the door, I re-wrote a bunch of the forums code.
I'm still not proud of them, but until I get all of the code together that I feel comfortable building with, I'm not going to put to much more energy into it.
Someday someone will come out with an interpolable object oriented PHP forum. Until then this is what I can muster.
The main changes were:
less ugly overall
control.modal, control.tabs, control.textarea into control suite category
